Justin Bieber's Supposed Baby Mama Could Be Investigated for Statutory Rape

November 4, 2011 (4:15 am) GMT
After Mariah Yeater filed the paternity suit against the 'Mistletoe' singer, Los Angeles police say they are 'reviewing information' to determine if they will pursue rape charge against her.

Mariah Yeater could be staring down a statutory rape charge. Just days after the 20-year-old woman filed a paternity lawsuit against , Los Angeles police Commander Andrew Smith told The Associated Press that she could be investigated for having sex with a minor.

No crime has been reported, but Smith said, "If it's brought to our attention, of course we'll look into it." Meanwhile, one of Yeater's lawyers, Matthew Pare, commented, "The issue of statutory rape, even if she's guilty, hypothetically, that has no bearing on the duties to provide child support. It's a totally separate issue."

Yeater filed the lawsuit against Bieber on October 31. In the court papers, she claimed to have sex with the "Baby" hitmaker in a bathroom at Los Angeles' Staples Center after his sold-out concert on October 25, 2010. She was, at the time, still 19 years old, while he was just 16 years old. She gave birth to a baby boy on July 6, 2011.

Under California law, it's illegal to have sex with someone under age 18. If the other person is not more than three years older, it is a misdemeanor, which carries up to a one-year jail sentence.

Since she came out with an accusation that Bieber fathered her baby, Yeater has been bombarded with death threats by the singer's fans, Beliebers. "I could kill this b***h, really she messes with my baby!!! SHE IS SOOO DEAD" and "Dear Mariah Yeater, Roses are red, violets are blue, stay away from Bieber or Beliebers will kill you" were some of the threatening tweets.

Instead of fearing for her life, Yeater took a stand on her Twitter account. She wrote at one point, "dear haters thanks for making me famous and keep the mean tweets coming so my name gets out there even more!!"
