The crime comedy movie starring Rachel Weisz, Adrien Brody and Mark Ruffalo is now slated to be released nationwide in January 2009.

AceShowbiz - One of the selected movies to be premiered at the 33rd Annual Toronto International Film Festival, crime comedy drama "The Brothers Bloom" has been scheduled earlier to get a December 19 screening time, but to the surprise of many the December release date has been listed as limited release. In further interesting tidbit, it is noted that the Rian Johnson's movie will not be released nationwide until January 16, 2009.
Unearthed firstly in Rian's Forum, the changing of the schedule has been confirmed by Johnson himself. Posting a message as his response to the posted message, he wrote, "It's true. I'm sorry I didn't post it earlier, it was all very hush hush and still being talked out, I actually didn't think they were going to release it until next week."
"There were a few reasons for the move: October and November are crowded as hell, it's a tough tough market, especially for a smart unique film like ours, and we'd have a week or two at the most to sink or swim. Whereas concentrating on a couple markets for awards consideration in December, then pushing the wide in the more open January slot just seemed like a better use of resources." The new wide release date will put the Rachel Weisz, Adrien Brody and Mark Ruffalo-starrer film on a milder competition as it will face Paul Rudd-starring comedy "I Love You, Man" and James McTeigue-directed action film "Ninja Assassin" among others. Meanwhile, its limited release lines the flick alongside Will Smith's "Seven Pounds", Universal Pictures' animation "The Tale of Despereaux" and Jim Carrey's "Yes Man".
Directed and scripted by Johnson, "Brothers Bloom" tells the story of two brothers who can be considered as the world's greatest con men. Making their living from swindling others' fortunes, the two schemed one last elaborate plot to lure a beautiful and eccentric heiress into their con. But, the matter gets complicated when one of the brothers falls in love with the woman they scam.
