When urban treasure hunters discover a dead body instead of their prize, the team initially believes another treasure seeker is the murderer. But the contest's winner is merely the thief who stole the victim's camera - the identification chip for which leads Laura (Debra Messing) and Jake (Josh Lucas) to the victim's home, where they learn he was involved in an unusual relationship: a three-person marriage. The team discovers the murderer is part of a different love-triangle though, when he turns out to be the jealous new boyfriend of the victim's ex-girlfriend.
While searching the victim's old apartment, Billy (Laz Alonso) tells Meredith (Janina Gavankar) he loves her minutes before she's attacked by a hidden assailant. After recuperating, Meredith asks Billy to take back his declaration. She worries if their relationship becomes official, one of them will be transferred, and she can't stand the thought of not working with him every day.
Meanwhile, Laura has relationship issues of her own. Confused by Jake's charm, she has been content not to choose between him and Tony, but Tony clearly is ready to force the issue. When he gets a moment alone with Laura he tells her why - he has a dream job offer in Las Vegas. He doesn't want the job though; he wants Laura, and he needs to know if she's committed to their relationship.
Laura's confusion clears up later that evening when she intercepts a phone call from Jake's neurologist and learns he lied about the results of his CAT scan. She tells Jake she doesn't trust him and doesn't think she ever will. Then she goes home to Tony.
