Nathan is still hopeful that Tom and Carol will get back together. When Carol and Tom's boxes of things arrive, Nate hatches a plan - he will make sure they both see all their sentimental family possessions and realize that they can't go through with this divorce. More importantly, he and Debbie can go back to their regular lives without their parents living with them. However, Tom and Carol surprise the kids when they both refuse to take this stuff, claiming that it only serves to remind them how much they don't want to be married to each other anymore. Seeing his plan foiled, Nate and Debbie are upset, but Tom and Carol mistakenly think Nate and Debbie are really upset about the divorce. Tom and Carol come up with their own plan to gently let the kids know that the divorce is final, but their family meeting turns into another Miller family argument.
