Donovan and Nolan bring Martina in to help pitch Stark & Rowan to Doug Hartstock, a heavily recruited high school quarterback who suffered a series of concussions while playing for Newcastle Prep, a perennial football powerhouse. Doug's father, Jack, insists that the school and coaching staff ignored Doug's earlier injuries, which made him lose out on a pro football career and put him at risk for dementia and other impairments as an adult. Martina uses her wealth of football knowledge to charm Doug and Jack, and they agree to let Stark & Rowan represent them. Martina and Riv get to work investigating the case, uncovering a video that shows Doug taking a nasty hit on the field and his coaches failing to pull him from the game. However, the defense surprises them at a hearing by telling the court that Doug's head injuries could also be the result of a hit and run he was involved in a few weeks earlier. Stuck, Martina sits down with Doug to pull the truth out of him. Doug tells her that he was being cyber-bullied by the team's equipment manager, who contacted him online and pretended to be his estranged mother. When Doug learned the truth and confronted him, the manager sped off in his car and clipped Doug, who fell and hit his head on the pavement. Luckily, Martina and Riv are able to prove that the equipment manager used school property to engage in the cyber-bullying, which is in violation of one of New York's newest laws. The school offers to settle the case, hoping to avoid the issue hitting the news and tarnishing its reputation.
Meanwhile, a problem in the accounting department at Stark & Rowan causes a delay in Martina's first paycheck, leaving her nearly broke. She unsuccessfully tries to hide this from her family members.
