Benson and Stabler investigate the murder of two prostitutes with the same ammo, same signature and same prayer card found at the crime scenes. Stabler continues to believe that the second victim, Abby Mannion wasn't a prostitute, due to her upscale residence on her drivers' license and pension for professional manicured nails.

The detectives discover that Abby was prostituting herself to help support her cocaine habit and they go check out her "john," Michael Gallagher. He denies knowing both victims, Maggie Ortiz and Abby, even though his DNA was found on Abby's body. Meanwhile, at the same time, Michael's wife tells Benson that religion has helped turn Michael's life around.

Mike admits to Stabler that his wife refused to give into his sexual fantasies, so he started an affair with Abby. Mike confesses that he and Abby were into role-playing and says he dropped her off at the street corner as part of their game. But continues to deny murdering her or Maggie. Cragen interrupts Mike's tearful denial to tell Stabler another prostitute has been found with the same prayer card, only she isn't dead.

Benson goes to interview "Sunshine" the prostitute and she plays the entire experience off. Before Benson can ask more questions, "Sunshine" splits in a getaway car. Fin finds out "Sunshin's" real name is Gladys Dalton. They find Gladys at her Aunt Shawna's apartment, where she still refuses to talk about the ordeal or the prayer card.

Benson does her best to get Gladys to open up about her past, especially how she became a prostitute. Gladys tearfully recalls how she started dating the wrong guy, who forced her into a life of getting used to selling her body or beating her until she agreed to sell her body.

Gladys tells Benson that she can't recall the guy who gave her the card, but knows where detectives can find a couple of other prostitutes who were picked up by the same creepy guy. While trying to interview the two girls about the "john," they are interrupted by their pimp, "Marmalade." As they leave, Stabler discovers one of the girls drew a sketch along with a description of the suspected killer's car and left it behind for him to see.

The detectives are able to track down their suspect, Billy Skaggs, a religious fanatic who believes he's "helping" the women he kills. When Gladys recognizes Billy in a line-up, she panics and tries to run, but trips down a flight of stairs. Benson rushes to Gladys' side, to find her unconscious and exposing her pregnant stomach. Later on, the doctor tells the detectives Gladys just suffered from a concussion and her fetus is fine, but she needs to remain in hospital care.

At the hearing, the Judge agrees to hold Billy without bail until his trial. Stabler and Benson head to the hospital and tell an upbeat Gladys the good news. Gladys informs the detectives she's keeping her baby and changing her life around. The news alarms Benson and Stabler, but Gladys assures them she will be a good mother.

Cabot tells the detectives that they need to bring Gladys back for an official line-up identification of Billy or he walks. Benson goes to Shawna's apartment, to find out that she kicked Gladys out after finding out she was pregnant and a prostitute. Shawna later shows remorse and tells Benson that Gladys was on the computer just before she left.

The SVU tracks down a prostitution ad that Gladys posted on the internet just before she left. They also trace the address to the one response she received. The detectives rush to the apartment in Brooklyn, to find two guys claiming they never saw Gladys. Benson rushes to the bedroom and finds an unconscious Gladys, passed out in her own amniotic fluid. Benson desperately tries to revive her.
