Tara Macri Revisits 'Grace' With Live Studio Version and Choir

Tara Macri has released 'Grace (Live Studio Version),' a piano-driven reimagining recorded live in Toronto with a choir, cello and previously unreleased lyrics.

AceShowbiz - Tara Macri has released Grace (Live Studio Version), a stripped-down reimagining of her summer single, along with an accompanying live performance video. Both arrived on November 6.

The new recording was made live at The Orange Lounge in Toronto and returns the song to its piano origins. Macri performs on grand piano alongside four choir vocalists — Jenna Cowans, Tarik Henry, Jonathan Boddie and Inez Mugisha — as well as cellist Kevin Fox and percussionist Zak St. John.

The track was produced by Jordan "AliasOne" Winfield and Spencer Sunshine, mixed by multiple Grammy award-winning engineer Chris "CLA" Lord-Alge and mastered by Ted Jensen at Sterling Sound. It also restores an entire section of lyrics that was cut from the original version of Grace.

Macri said the idea for the live version grew out of the original recording sessions, when she first heard the choir sing.

"Grace originally started with just me sitting at the piano, so I always loved the idea of going back to where it all began," Macri said in a statement. "When we brought the choir in to record the original version, I remember hearing them sing and just falling in love with their voices. I immediately thought, how amazing would it be to do a stripped-down version of the song with them? And a few months later we did."

She added that bringing back the removed lyrics gives listeners more of the song's narrative.

"We also brought back a whole section with lyrics that we'd taken out of the original recording, which I love because it gives people a little more of the story," she said. "Even though it's the same song, it has a completely different feel. It's a little more intimate version of 'Grace' and I'm so excited for everyone to hear it."

The performance video was filmed and edited by Corey "CW" Winfield, brother of producer AliasOne and son of Canadian music figure Aubrey Winfield. It captures Macri at the piano surrounded by the four choir vocalists, keeping the focus on the voices and instrumentation.

The original Grace was released on July 31. Produced by Jordan "Alias One" Winfield and mixed by five-time Grammy Award winner Chris Lord-Alge, it grew from a piano demo into a full pop production. Its music video, directed by Julia Baylis and Sam Guest of Anarene Films, was set in New York City and followed strangers whose lives intersect through moments of connection.

Since its release, the single has drawn editorial coverage from outlets including EARMILK, B-Sides & Badlands and Popdust. It has also received radio support across Canada, with 106 reported spins and an estimated airplay audience of 136,000 across markets including Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Halifax and Ottawa. Grace debuted at #50 on Top 40 Canadian radio. A targeted Top 40 radio campaign is underway in the U.S., with early airplay secured at KKPN Planet 102.3 in Corpus Christi.

Macri's career spans Broadway, film, television and voice acting. She has appeared in productions including Hairspray, Jersey Boys and The First Wives Club, and performed as Amber in Hairspray at the Hollywood Bowl alongside Nick Jonas and John Stamos. She also lent her voice to DreamWorks' Kung Fu Panda: Secrets of the Scroll. More recently, she received Best Actress honors for her starring role in Outcry. Her releases include the Billboard-charting Prettiest Girl in the Room, Excuses, Waking Up in California and Gonna Get Loud.
