AceShowbiz - Drake has strongly denied allegations that he stole the hook for the song "Janice STFU" following a recent copyright infringement lawsuit.
On October 16, producer and songwriter Aviel Calev Hirschfield filed a lawsuit against Drake, claiming that he wrote the chorus for "Janice STFU" with Drake in mind earlier this year. According to the complaint, Aviel created the chorus in January over a production by FnZ, the producers credited on the track, and subsequently sent it to FnZ and others associated with Drake. However, he alleges that he never received any response.
When Drake released his album Iceman in May, which included "Janice STFU" without any credit to Aviel, the plaintiff reached out to Drake's team. Aviel claims he provided "stems"—isolated tracks of his original chorus recording—as proof of his authorship. Despite this, Drake and his representatives have rejected these claims and refused to acknowledge or compensate him.
In response to the lawsuit, Drake's team issued a statement to XXL on October 19 categorically denying all accusations. They emphasized that the allegations are completely without merit and described the lawsuit as a fabricated attempt to exploit Drake's reputation for financial gain and publicity. The statement clarifies that Drake wrote the song independently and has no connection or knowledge of Aviel Calev Hirschfield.
Aviel is pursuing the case in court and has requested a jury trial to resolve the dispute. The outcome of this legal battle remains pending as both parties prepare to present their evidence.
This case adds to a long history of copyright disputes in the music industry, where questions of authorship and credit can lead to high-profile legal challenges. Fans and observers will be watching closely as this situation unfolds.
