AceShowbiz - Blond in Car, the indie project of Robin Schorr, has released a new single that poses a question no one wants to answer: "Will you come to my funeral?" The track, titled "Come To My Funeral," arrived August 12 as the third single from her forthcoming album GLIDER.

The song is a tender, darkly funny meditation on friendship, mortality and the bittersweet realization that the people we love will continue living after we're gone. It grew out of Schorr's unusual preoccupation with the many close friendships she has formed through music, often with people considerably younger than she is.

"I won't go to their weddings, meet their children or see their homes," Schorr says. "So many things will happen in their lives that I won't be here for." Eventually, that thought became a question she started asking at shows, on tour and in writing sessions: "Will you come to my funeral?"

While recording GLIDER with producer Melina Duterte, better known as Jay Som, Schorr mentioned she was considering turning the idea into a song but worried it might be too maudlin. Duterte encouraged her to stop overthinking and write from the heart. The result is one of the album's most intimate moments, built around Schorr's Omnichord and Duterte's guitars, bass and synths, with delicate violin and cello giving it an almost cinematic sense of goodbye.

Schorr admits she struggled to record the vocals without crying and isn't quite sure how she will make it through the song live. "My best strategy is to pretend it isn't about me," she says. "That gives me enough distance to sing it."

Even Schorr's daughter had a different reaction, simply calling the song "cute." The young violinist and cellist who played on the track agreed, calling it their favorite song they had played on and describing it as unusual and even a little funny.

That tension is exactly what makes "Come To My Funeral" so distinctly Blond in Car. For all its talk of death, the song is ultimately about wanting to remain connected to the people you love. Schorr imagines a future gathering where all the friends from her life finally meet, cross-pollinate, tell colorful stories and play the dreamy songs she left behind.

"I hope everyone who hears it feels obligated to come to my funeral," Schorr says. "Like it's a handshake agreement whereby once you've heard the song, you're bound. All the friends from my life will meet each other there and dress up and hug it out on that special day. And I will be somewhere in the ether smiling."

Following "Bad Dad," featuring Missy Dabice of Mannequin Pussy, and "How To Be a Mystery," featuring Jack Newsome, "Come To My Funeral" is the third chapter of GLIDER, produced by Jay Som and featuring a cast of collaborators including Mannequin Pussy, Yumi Zouma, BEL, Liam Benzvi and Newsome.

Blond in Car recently completed a sold-out support tour with CMAT and has appeared alongside The Two Lips, Beach Bunny, Wallice, Quarters of Change, Slimdan and Debbii Dawson. Her first two GLIDER singles have already earned editorial playlist support across Spotify, Apple Music and TIDAL, while "Bad Dad" drew praise from Anthony Fantano.

With GLIDER, Schorr continues to reveal just how much she has to say about love, family, anxiety, longing and reinvention. "Come To My Funeral" takes something sad and makes room for humor, tenderness, friendship and even a little party planning.
