AceShowbiz - Carson Rowland is set to appear in a recurring role on NBC’s reboot of The Rockford Files, Us Weekly reports. The network greenlit the series in May 2024, marking a fresh take on the classic detective drama.
Per Us Weekly, the new show stars David Boreanaz as Jim Rockford, who returns to private investigation after being recently paroled for a crime he did not commit. Felix Solis and Jacki Weaver have also been cast as Rockford’s best friend Nitty and trailer park neighbor Karma, respectively. Tvinsider adds that Rowland’s involvement comes as he transitions from his previous role on the Netflix drama series Sweet Magnolias, where he played Ty Townsend.
Rowland hinted at new work through recent social media updates, including an Instagram post from late May 2024 showing him filming on set. He shared that in addition to the pilot for The Rockford Files, he recently wrapped production on three independent films that remain unreleased.
Sweet Magnolias is a Netflix drama series featuring an ensemble cast including Joanna Garcia, Brooke Elliott, Heather Headley, and Jamie Lynn Spears. The show centers on the lives and relationships of close-knit friends in a small Southern town. Rowland's character Ty had a diminished role in season four, explained by the character’s music tour, and was absent in season five, which debuted in June 2024.
This casting marks a significant career move for Rowland, who left Sweet Magnolias to pursue other opportunities, as confirmed by the show’s creator Sheryl J. Anderson. His new role on NBC’s reboot demonstrates a shift toward network television and the possibility of expanding his presence in the crime drama genre.
