AceShowbiz - The legal proceedings against Ivanna Ortiz, the woman accused of firing multiple shots at the home of Rihanna and A$AP Rocky, were paused on Tuesday as the court ordered a mental competency evaluation.

Ortiz, 35, faces charges including attempted murder, assault with a semiautomatic firearm, and shooting at an inhabited dwelling after allegedly discharging 20 rounds from an AR-15-style rifle at the Los Angeles residence of the famous couple on March 8, 2026. The incident reportedly forced Rihanna to push A$AP Rocky to the ground to seek cover.

During a private meeting with a public defender, Judge Shannon Cooley found sufficient reason to question Ortiz’s mental fitness to stand trial. Consequently, the judge suspended the case and referred Ortiz to the county’s Mental Health Court for an in-depth psychiatric evaluation. A psychiatrist has been appointed to examine Ortiz and submit a competency report to the court. Her initial hearing in Mental Health Court is scheduled for June 2.

This decision follows a prior hearing last week where a similar request for mental competency review was denied due to insufficient evidence at that time. Ortiz appeared in custody during the previous hearing but was not present in court on Tuesday for the latest ruling.

According to court documents, Ortiz has pleaded not guilty to one count of attempted murder, ten counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, and three counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling. Prosecutors allege she intentionally drove to Rihanna’s home and fired multiple rounds while the property was occupied by the couple, their three children, and Rihanna’s mother.

A police report obtained by Rolling Stone detailed the events from the perspective of Rihanna and A$AP Rocky. The couple was inside an Airstream trailer parked outside their home when Rihanna heard “approximately ten loud sounds like something banging on metal.” Upon looking outside, she observed bullet holes in the windshield of the trailer directly where she had been standing moments earlier.

Reacting quickly, Rihanna reportedly grabbed A$AP Rocky out of bed, alerted him that they were under fire, and pushed both of them to the ground for protection. The Grammy-winning singer said, “They shooting at us,” as she forced him down. The couple then rushed to the garage to secure their children and household staff.

Deputy District Attorney Alexander Bott described the shooting as an “extremely dangerous deliberate shooting in occupied homes.” He explained the attack lasted several seconds and emphasized the potential lethality of the act.

Bott stressed the calculated nature of Ortiz’s actions, stating, “She brought a loaded rifle, ammunition, and even a disguise in the form of a wig, which demonstrates planning.” He further remarked on the recklessness of firing a high-powered rifle in a residential area, putting numerous lives at risk and potentially causing multiple fatalities.

Witnesses reported seeing a white Tesla Model 3 with a temporary paper license plate fleeing the scene immediately after the shooting. A police helicopter tracked the vehicle, leading to Ortiz’s prompt arrest. Investigators found six bullet holes in the driveway gate of the property and a seventh in a pedestrian gate. Inside the compound, three bullet holes were discovered in a wooden fence hidden by tall hedges, according to court documents obtained by Rolling Stone.

The case remains on hold pending the outcome of Ortiz’s mental health evaluation, with the next judicial step set for early June. The proceedings will determine whether she is competent to understand and participate in her defense as the attempted murder charges proceed.
