AceShowbiz - FX is officially moving forward with a series order for Very Young Frankenstein, a comedy inspired by Mel Brooks' iconic film Young Frankenstein. The project has been in development for almost a year and initially received a pilot order last September.

The series will star Zach Galifianakis, Dolly Wells, and Spencer House, with Mel Brooks serving as an executive producer. Both FX and Hulu will broadcast the show once it debuts.

Stefani Robinson, known for her work on Atlanta and What We Do in the Shadows, wrote the pilot episode. The acclaimed filmmaker Taika Waititi directed the pilot and will also executive produce alongside Garrett Basch, Brooks and his longtime producing partner Kevin Salter, as well as Young Frankenstein producer Michael Gruskoff. The series is produced by 20th Television.

Nick Grad, president of FX Entertainment, expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating that Very Young Frankenstein combines the spirit of the beloved original movie with the bold and irreverent tone that FX comedies are known for. He emphasized the creative team’s ability to deliver a fresh and original take on the classic story, promising fans an entertaining experience.

While specific plot details remain under wraps, the title suggests the series will be a prequel, set before the events of the 1974 film in which Gene Wilder’s character, Frederick Frankenstein (pronounced Fronk-en-steen), returns to Transylvania to continue his grandfather Victor's experiments involving reanimation of the dead.

In addition to the primary cast, the pilot also features Kumail Nanjiani, Nikki Crawford, and Cary Elwes, expanding the ensemble for this rebooted take on the classic tale.

Young Frankenstein, originally directed by Mel Brooks and co-written with Gene Wilder, is a beloved parody of 1930s monster movies. The original film starred a notable cast including Marty Feldman, Cloris Leachman, Teri Garr, Peter Boyle, Madeline Kahn, and Kenneth Mars, and remains a classic in comedy cinema.

With the combination of a star-studded cast, talented writers and directors, and the backing of a legendary figure like Brooks, Very Young Frankenstein aims to bring a new and inventive chapter to the Frankenstein legacy on FX and Hulu.
