AceShowbiz - A recently revealed book offers fresh insight into the close relationship between Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta, the co-stars of the 1978 hit musical Grease. The book, titled A Little More Love: The Life and Legacy of Olivia Newton-John, is scheduled for release on Thursday, May 14, but an excerpt published by People shares details about a near-romantic connection between the two stars, decades after the film's release.
According to the excerpt, a musician who once played in Newton-John's band and had been married to a Scientologist revealed that the actress and Travolta were “very, very close,” suggesting their closeness was almost romantic. This band member recalled a conversation with Newton-John during their time working together, in which she brought up Travolta and his ties to Scientology.
The musician shared that Newton-John asked a personal question about his own marriage to a Scientologist, stating, “Obviously, you know John is a Scientologist. I know the Church of Scientology really reveres him as a very valuable follower.” She then pondered aloud whether marrying Travolta would have meant she was expected to join Scientology herself.
The band member responded that while joining Scientology would likely have been encouraged, it would not have been mandatory. This detail aligns with Travolta's known long-standing relationship with the Church of Scientology, which he joined at the age of 21 in 1975.
The excerpt also refers to a 2018 interview with Didi Conn, who played Frenchie in Grease. Conn claimed there was authentic chemistry between Newton-John and Travolta during filming. She even described an alternate ending to the movie where Sandy and Danny share a "juicy" kiss, asserting, "They weren't acting at that moment. It was real, it really was."
Regarding their personal lives, Travolta married Kelly Preston in 1991, and they remained together until her passing in 2020 from breast cancer at age 57. Meanwhile, Newton-John was married to Matt Lattanzi from 1984 to 1995 and later wed John Easterling in 2008. She passed away in 2022 at age 73 after battling breast cancer.
After Newton-John's death, Travolta shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, writing, "My dearest Olivia, you made all of our lives so much better. Your impact was incredible. I love you so much. We will see you down the road and we will all be together again. Yours from the first moment I saw you and forever!
