AceShowbiz - Donald Gibb, the actor widely recognized for his role as Ogre in the Revenge of the Nerds series and for his appearance in Bloodsport, passed away at the age of 71. His death was confirmed by his son Travis, who informed TMZ that Gibb died from health complications surrounded by family at his home in Texas.
While the exact cause of death was not made public, it was noted that Gibb had been struggling with unspecified health problems for some time prior to his passing. The actor’s death was not sudden, reflecting a period of ongoing medical issues.
Donald Gibb was born in New York City on August 4, 1954, before relocating to California where he was raised. He attended Notre Dame High School in the Los Angeles area. Following high school, he earned a basketball scholarship to the University of New Mexico but later transferred to the University of San Diego, where he played football on a sports scholarship.
Before fully committing to acting, Gibb briefly pursued a career in professional football with the San Diego Chargers. However, an automobile accident led to an injury that ended his athletic aspirations. This incident prompted him to focus on acting, initially landing small, uncredited roles in films such as Stripes and Conan the Barbarian.
Gibb’s most notable role remains that of Ogre, the dim-witted fraternity brother in the 1984 cult classic Revenge of the Nerds. He reprised this role in the sequels Revenge of the Nerds II: Nerds in Paradise and Revenge of the Nerds IV: Nerds in Love. Additionally, he starred opposite Jean-Claude Van Damme as fighter Ray Jackson in the 1988 martial arts film Bloodsport and returned for its 1996 sequel Bloodsport II: The Next Kumite.
Other credits in Gibb’s career include television and film projects such as 1st & Ten, Hancock, Jocks, and Amazon Women on the Moon. His contributions to both comedy and action genres have left a lasting impression on fans.
Gibb’s death comes just months after the passing of his Revenge of the Nerds co-star Robert Carradine, who died at 71 after battling Bipolar Disorder for over twenty years. The loss of both actors marks a significant moment for fans of the iconic film series.
