AceShowbiz - Oli Sykes, the lead vocalist of Bring Me the Horizon, revealed he sustained a mild concussion after a phone was thrown at him during a live performance on Monday night.
The incident occurred while Sykes was on stage, and footage of the moment quickly circulated online, prompting him to address the situation directly with his fans. On Tuesday, he took to his Instagram Stories to provide an update on his condition.
“Alright everyone - just wanted to let you know I'm all good,” Sykes wrote. He explained that the phone strike to his head caused discomfort and resulted in a mild concussion. Fortunately, he noted that the swelling had already reduced considerably.
Despite the injury, Sykes continued performing, although he admitted it was challenging. He apologized to the audience, explaining that singing put pressure on the wound and made him feel disoriented. “Last night I was struggling a bit on stage afterwards because singing was putting a lot of pressure on the wound and making things feel a bit disorienting while performing, so I'm sorry on my part for what may of seemed like a half hearted performance,” he said.
He thanked fans for their concern and reassured them that he expected to be fine for the following night’s show. “Appreciate everyone checking in and worrying about me though,” Sykes concluded. “Everything should be fine for tonight gig.”
This incident reflects a troubling trend at live events, where performers have been targeted by objects thrown from the crowd. Several high-profile artists have faced similar attacks in recent years, including Kelly Clarkson, Bebe Rexha, Ava Max, Drake, Kelsea Ballerini, Harry Styles, and Billie Eilish.
In 2023, Adele commented on this disturbing behavior during her Las Vegas residency, highlighting a decline in concert etiquette. “Have you noticed how people are, like, forgetting fucking show etiquette in America?” she said to her audience. “They're just throwing shit onstage.”
The growing issue of fans throwing items on stage poses safety risks and disrupts performances, affecting artists’ ability to engage with their audiences fully. Bring Me the Horizon’s experience with Sykes’ injury adds to the ongoing conversation about improving concert environments for both performers and fans alike.
