Inside the SUV at the time of the crashes were Mathers’ teenage son, Parker, and three of his friends. The group had been out shopping before the incident occurred. A local resident witnessed the collisions and promptly contacted law enforcement.

When officers arrived at Mathers’ residence, she reportedly admitted to driving the vehicle involved in the accident. She is said to have told police, "I know what this is about," before confessing to hitting the parked truck.

Law enforcement noted several signs that Mathers was under the influence at the time of the crash, including glossy eyes, slurred speech, and lethargy. The officers also detected a strong odor of alcohol emanating from her.

Mathers claimed she had only consumed two margaritas at Chili’s before driving. Nevertheless, a breathalyzer test administered at the scene indicated a blood alcohol content (BAC) of 0.079 percent, just under the legal limit in Michigan.

During the investigation, Mathers attempted to blame another driver for causing the collision, but police reports do not support this claim. Officers also found an empty bottle of Crown Royal Apple whiskey and a root beer can suspected of containing alcohol inside the SUV.

The booking process revealed that Mathers appeared confused and struggled to stay awake while answering questions about the crashes, including the damage to her garage door.

This arrest marks another difficult chapter for Kimberly Mathers, who has faced ongoing struggles with addiction and mental health over the years. Notably, she was previously charged with a DUI in 2017, adding context to her current legal troubles.
