AceShowbiz - Amazon is exploring the possibility of bringing back The Apprentice, the popular reality competition show originally aired on NBC. According to The Wall Street Journal, early discussions are underway to reboot the series on Prime Video with Donald Trump Jr. as the potential host, stepping into a role once held by his father, Donald Trump.
The talks remain in preliminary stages, and Amazon has not officially reached out to the Trump family. An Amazon spokesperson confirmed to The Wall Street Journal that since acquiring MGM, the company has had internal conversations about the future of The Apprentice as a property. However, they emphasized that the show is not yet in active development and no host has been officially attached.
The idea to revive The Apprentice reportedly began forming in early 2025, around the time Donald Trump was sworn in for his second presidential term. This was also the period when Amazon approved Brett Ratner’s documentary about First Lady Melania Trump, showing a renewed interest in Trump-related content.
The Apprentice first premiered on NBC in January 2004 as a midseason replacement and aired a total of 15 seasons until 2017. The original format featured contestants competing for a one-year, $250,000 contract with Donald Trump, a format used in the first six seasons and again in Season 10. These seasons are currently available for streaming on Prime Video.
Seasons 7 through 9 and 11 through 15 were branded as The Celebrity Apprentice, where celebrities competed to win money for charities of their choice. The series saw a significant shift in 2015 when NBC cut ties with Donald Trump following controversial remarks he made about Mexican immigrants during his presidential campaign announcement.
After the split, Arnold Schwarzenegger took over as host for the eighth and final season of The Celebrity Apprentice. Additionally, there was a short-lived spin-off hosted by Martha Stewart that aired in 2005, but it did not continue beyond one season.
While Amazon's interest in rebooting The Apprentice signals a potential return to the boardroom, no concrete plans have been announced. Fans of the series will have to wait and see if Donald Trump Jr. will indeed take the helm as host in the near future.
