Could Rapunzel escape Dexter for good? Eric Stonestreet hints at a season 2 return for the elusive villain in Dexter: Resurrection.

AceShowbiz - Dexter: Resurrection fans may not have seen the last of one of the season 1 villains, Rapunzel, portrayed by Eric Stonestreet. The revival of the beloved Showtime series, created by Clyde Phillips, returned last summer following Michael C. Hall’s iconic serial killer as he tries to forge a new life in New York City. Season 1 saw Dexter confront multiple antagonists, but Rapunzel was one who managed to slip away, sparking speculation about a potential return in season 2.
In a recent conversation with TV Insider, Stonestreet dropped hints that Rapunzel could make a comeback in upcoming episodes of the show. "Nobody really ever gets away from Dexter," Stonestreet said. He recalled reflecting on the character’s fate while filming, noting, "How many people have gotten away from Dexter? Not many," and left the door open on Rapunzel’s future by saying, "Who knows what's in Al's future is all I can say about that."
Rapunzel, whose real name is Al, was last seen at the end of season 1 driving back toward his Wisconsin home. Despite Dexter’s attempts to keep him in New York longer to eliminate him, Al managed to escape and discarded his burner phone, seemingly free. With the demise of Leon Prater (Peter Dinklage) and most of his serial killer syndicate by the finale, it remains unclear what might draw Rapunzel back to the city.
Intriguingly, when the credits rolled on season 1, Al still appeared convinced Dexter was someone named Red, suggesting he could be lured back under false pretenses. Whether Rapunzel’s return happens in season 2 or a later installment is uncertain, but Michael C. Hall’s character will certainly face plenty of new threats.
The upcoming season will see the return of Uma Thurman as Charley, Prater’s former security chief from the first season, while new antagonists include Brian Cox as the New York Ripper and Dan Stevens as the Five Borough Killer. This lineup promises fresh challenges for Dexter as the story unfolds.
Dexter: Resurrection season 2 is currently filming in New York City and is slated for an October premiere later this year. Since production only recently began, fans should not expect a trailer or promotional material for several months.

If Rapunzel does return, it could trigger a dramatic reckoning for Dexter, especially if his true identity is exposed. While it remains unclear exactly when Al’s character will reappear, the series clearly has no shortage of villains for Dexter to confront in the future.
With its blend of suspense, complex characters, and new sinister forces, Dexter: Resurrection season 2 promises to keep audiences on edge as Dexter continues his dark journey in New York City.
