AceShowbiz - The official trailer for Prime Video’s upcoming series Spider-Noir has been released, showcasing Nicolas Cage in a gritty new role as a private investigator in 1930s New York. This marks the Oscar-winning actor’s first leading role in a television series, where he portrays Ben Reilly, a former superhero turned aging detective haunted by his past.
In the trailer, Ben Reilly discovers his old powers resurfacing as he confronts a dangerous Irish crime lord played by Brendan Gleeson. Gleeson’s character is hinted to be Silvermane, a notorious villain from the Spider-Man comics, adding a dark, villainous edge to the storyline. The trailer debuted at Mexico City’s CCXPMX26 pop culture festival, generating excitement among fans of the Spider-Man universe.
The series uniquely offers viewers two viewing options: “Authentic Black & White” and “True-Hue Full Color.” This choice pays homage to the original Spider-Man Noir comics, which featured muted, monochromatic tones, giving audiences a nostalgic yet fresh visual experience.
Although based on the Spider-Man Noir comic, Spider-Noir is designed as a standalone story and is not connected to Sony’s Spider-Man film franchise or the Into the Spider-Verse animated movies. This separation allows the series to explore a darker, more mature narrative within its own universe.
The cast also includes Lamorne Morris (Fargo), Li Jun Li (Sinners), Karen Rodriguez (The Hunting Wives), Abraham Popoola (Slow Horses), and Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire), alongside Brendan Gleeson. The series will launch on May 27 with all episodes released simultaneously for binge-watching.
Spider-Noir is produced by Sony Pictures Television for MGM+ and Prime Video. The first two episodes are directed and executive produced by Harry Bradbeer, known for Fleabag. Showrunners Oren Uziel (The Lost City) and Steve Lightfoot (The Punisher) developed the series with input from the creative team behind Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, including Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal, ensuring a high-quality production that honors the source material while charting its own course.
