AceShowbiz - The 2026 Cannes Film Festival has expanded its Official Selection with a diverse array of new films for its 79th edition, scheduled to take place from May 12 to 23. Among the latest additions are the crime drama Paper Tiger by James Gray and the feature directing debut of actress Judith Godrèche with A Girl's Story, which will screen in the Un Certain Regard section.
Paper Tiger is a New York-set crime drama starring Adam Driver, Miles Teller, and Scarlett Johansson. The film marks the sixth time that director James Gray has competed at Cannes. Neon has acquired the North American distribution rights for this title, signaling strong anticipation for its release.
A Girl's Story represents a significant milestone for Judith Godrèche, who transitions from acting to directing with this feature film. She previously gained recognition for her short film Moi Aussi, which opened the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes in 2023. Godrèche has also become an influential voice in France’s #MeToo movement, having come forward in 2024 with allegations of sexual abuse against prominent directors Benoît Jacquot and Jacques Doillon.
Adding to the Un Certain Regard lineup is the gothic horror-thriller Victorian Psycho, directed by Zachary Wigon. The film features a notable cast including Maika Monroe, Jason Isaacs, Thomasin McKenzie, and Ruth Wilson. Produced by Anton and Traffic in association with Anonymous Content, Victorian Psycho will be distributed in the U.S. by Bleecker Street.
Another distinct addition to the Un Certain Regard slate is Titanic Ocean, a coming-of-age story set in a Japanese boarding school featuring trans professional mermaids. Directed by Greek filmmaker Konstantina Kotzamani, the film is a co-production involving Athens-based Homemade Films along with Wunderlust, Defilm, Manny Films, Frida Films, and Happinet Phantom Studios.
The festival's Un Certain Regard section will close with Ulysse, a family drama directed by Laetitia Masson, offering an emotionally rich conclusion to that segment of the festival.
Additional selections for Cannes 2026 include several notable films across different categories. Olivier Clert’s family film Lucy Lost, an adaptation of Michael Morpurgo’s 2014 novel Listen to the Moon, will be featured in the family screening category. Diego Luna’s Spanish-language drama Ashes, adapted from Brenda Navarro’s award-winning novel Eating Ashes, stars Anna Díaz, Adriana Paz, Laura Gómez, and Charlie Rowe and will screen as a special presentation.
Other films joining the Cannes Premiere lineup are The End Of It by Maria Martinez Bayona, Mary Magdalene by Gessica Généus, Aqui by Tiago Guedes, Mariage au Goût d'Orange by Christophe Honoré, and Si Tu Penses Bien by Géraldine Nakache.
Special screenings will include titles such as Spring by Rostislav Kirpi?enko, Tangles by Leah Nelson, Le Triangle d'Or by Hélène Rosselet-Ruiz, and Groundswell by Joshua and Rebecca Tickell.
This latest wave of additions highlights Cannes’ commitment to presenting a variety of stories and voices from around the world, ranging from high-profile competition dramas to innovative genre films and socially conscious narratives. The 79th edition continues to build excitement as it prepares to showcase an impressive slate of cinematic works across its multiple sections.
