The incident occurred Saturday night as Billy Strings attempted a skateboard trick known as a back 180, a move he said he had performed many times before. However, this time he landed awkwardly and broke his leg, an injury he described on Instagram. “I heard it snap over the screaming crowd!” he wrote, reflecting on the moment immediately after leaving the stage before the encore.

The artist shared a series of photos from his hospital stay, including X-rays that reveal the screws and plates surgeons used to repair his leg. In his post, he described the intense pain and medical treatments he has endured, including ketamine-assisted procedures and surgery, praising the medical staff at UVA for their care and expertise.

Initially, Billy Strings considered continuing his tour despite the injury. He mentioned that Dave Grohl reached out to him, offering the use of the wheelchair he himself toured with after breaking a leg, calling it his “throne.” However, after weighing the situation, Billy Strings decided it was best to allow the injury to properly heal.

As a result, some upcoming concerts have been postponed. Shows planned for April 22 in Charleston, West Virginia, as well as a three-night engagement in Fishers, Indiana, have been rescheduled for August. This pause comes near the end of his spring tour, shortly after completing a two-night run at the John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville.
