AceShowbiz - Paramount+ is expanding its lineup with a new animated series featuring the iconic lasagna-loving cat Garfield. This upcoming show will mark the latest addition to the Garfield franchise, following 2024’s The Garfield Movie and the 2021 series Garfield Originals.
The streaming platform has confirmed that the beloved character will be voiced by actor Lamorne Morris, known for his roles on Saturday Night Live and Fargo. The series is currently untitled and is set to be produced by Nickelodeon Animation Studios.
The executive producers for the show will be Dave H. Johnson and John Trabbic III, who previously co-executive produced Nickelodeon’s Middlemost Post. This project arrives nearly six years after Nickelodeon and Paramount’s former parent company Viacom acquired the rights to Garfield’s creator Paws Inc. in 2019. That acquisition included the rights to develop new animated content, create consumer merchandise, and use the character in “location-based” experiences.
Fans can already find Garfield-themed merchandise on the Paramount Shop, including a $25 “Lasagna-Yeah!” shirt and various items inspired by Garfield comic strips.
The 2024 The Garfield Movie, released by Columbia Pictures through Sony Pictures Releasing, earned a moderate worldwide box office total of $257 million. Despite mixed reviews, a sequel is planned with Chris Pratt returning to voice the titular character.
This new animated series is part of Paramount+’s effort to strengthen its children’s programming, which already features popular series like SpongeBob SquarePants and PAW Patrol. The platform has also recently greenlit additional kids’ shows such as The Elephant & Piggie Show! and The Pigeon Show! starring the Pigeon.
Lamorne Morris is represented by Entertainment 360, CAA, The Lede Company, and Myman Greenspan as he embarks on this new voice acting role.
