AceShowbiz - At the recent Warner Bros. panel during CinemaCon, it was officially confirmed that Ocean's 11 will have a prequel film written, directed, produced, and starred in by none other than Bradley Cooper. The announcement came during the closing moments of Warner Bros.' "The Big Picture" presentation held in Las Vegas, where executives Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy provided a glimpse into their upcoming slate of films slated for release in 2027 and beyond.
This eagerly anticipated prequel is scheduled for release on June 25, 2027, and marks a significant new chapter for the Ocean’s 11 franchise. Earlier in the event, Margot Robbie appeared via video message to confirm her involvement alongside Bradley Cooper, revealing that the two will portray the parents of Danny Ocean, the iconic character originally played by George Clooney in Steven Soderbergh’s trilogy.
Robbie shared insight into the story’s premise, explaining that it centers on an epic heist taking place during the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix. She highlighted how the film explores the origins of Danny Ocean’s skills, with his parents depicted as master criminals who taught him everything he knows before he ever set foot in Las Vegas.
This marks a substantial undertaking for Bradley Cooper, who will be taking on four key roles: writing, directing, producing, and starring in the film. It will be his fourth directorial project, following his work on critically acclaimed films such as A Star Is Born (2018) and Maestro (2023). More recently, Cooper directed the 2025 romantic comedy-drama Is This Thing On? starring Will Arnett.
The Ocean’s 11 prequel was previously in development under the direction of Lee Isaac Chung, known for films like Minari and Twister, but the project has since transitioned to Cooper’s leadership. Though the panel focused mainly on Warner Bros.' 2026 lineup, the brief mention of this high-profile prequel generated significant excitement among attendees.
In addition to this announcement, the Warner Bros. panel showcased exclusive first looks and footage from a variety of upcoming projects, including Supergirl, Clayface, Digger, Evil Dead Burn, Mortal Kombat II, Practical Magic 2, and The Great Beyond. Attendees also enjoyed the first seven minutes of Dune: Part Three, presented by director Denis Villeneuve and stars Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, and Jason Momoa.
With its release date set for June 25, 2027, the untitled Ocean’s 11 prequel promises to delve into the roots of the legendary heist saga, exploring the story behind the man who would become Danny Ocean through the lens of his parents’ daring exploits.
