According to the Associated Press, she died on Sunday due to multiple organ failure at a hospital in Mumbai, India. Her son Anand Bhosle confirmed that her last rites are scheduled to be performed on Monday.
Asha Bhosle was celebrated as one of India’s most popular and versatile playback singers, with a career spanning an impressive eight decades. Over that time, she recorded more than 12,000 songs, becoming a vital voice in countless Bollywood films and extending her influence internationally.
Born into the illustrious Mangeshkar musical family, Asha Bhosle was the younger sister of Lata Mangeshkar, often referred to as India’s "Queen of Melody." Lata Mangeshkar also enjoyed a legendary career as a playback singer and passed away in 2022 at the same age of 92.
Asha Bhosle was especially known for her musical partnership with composer RD Burman, who was not only her longtime collaborator but also her husband. Together, they crafted some of Bollywood’s most memorable songs, including hits like "Dum Maro Dum" and "Piya Tu Ab To Aja."
