AceShowbiz - Connor Storrie recently gained attention at the Vanity Fair Oscar party when he arrived alongside filmmaker Nia DaCosta. Their appearance fueled speculation among fans about the connection between the rising star and the acclaimed director known for works like 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, Hedda, Candyman, and The Marvels.
That connection was confirmed as Storrie stars in a new branded short film titled Look Behind You, directed by DaCosta for Verizon. The four-and-a-half-minute thriller opens with Storrie arriving at a remote cabin in the woods. Using Verizon’s smart home security system, he unlocks the door and gets comfortable by lighting a fire. Dressed casually in jeans and a white tank top, he soon experiences a series of unsettling occurrences that hint at an unseen presence.
The tension builds through a sequence of eerie events. First, loud death metal music suddenly blasts from the stereo. While preparing pasta and rehearsing lines from a script that include the phrase, "I spent all dinner trying to hate the way you laugh," the house alarm goes off. The lights flicker out and a landline phone rings unexpectedly. A lamp then switches on by itself. Armed with a kitchen knife, Storrie declares, "I'm not messing around," as a knock sounds at the door.
Warning: Spoilers ahead for the film’s conclusion. Storrie opens the door during a sudden rainstorm to reveal a shadowy figure in a raincoat. The visitor explains, "I knocked on the door. I looked in the windows. I almost gave up, man," before asking, "Are you Connor S.?"
The man is revealed to be a ride-share driver, dispelling the threat of a lurking serial killer. It turns out the strange disturbances were caused by "butt dials" triggered as Storrie sat down in various spots around the cabin. As he realizes this, the camera shifts to focus on his backside reflected in a mirror. The screen then displays the tagline: "The Best Butt. The Best Network. There's No Escape."
Reflecting on the project, Storrie expressed enthusiasm about the creative process: "From the concept to execution, this was an incredibly collaborative and creatively fulfilling experience. Verizon is a brand that really understands storytelling and culture, so they fully leaned into the idea." He also praised working with DaCosta, stating the director "took everything to another level."
Nia DaCosta added, "I had such a great time working with Connor and making this spot for Verizon! The team was amazing and we had so much fun bringing this to life."
Leslie Berland, Verizon’s executive vice president and chief marketing officer, highlighted the significance of securing both Storrie and DaCosta for the brand’s first projects: "The collaboration and creative process was pure magic. We set out to bring Verizon's network to life in a way that's bold and unexpected, and we're thrilled with the result. Nia is an absolute artist, and Connor is simply a phenomenon."
The nod to Storrie’s “best butt” is a playful callback for fans familiar with his breakout role in the series Heated Rivalry. His nude backside made a memorable impression in the show’s first episode, sparking widespread discussion. Co-star Hudson Williams frequently praised Storrie’s physique, calling it "the fattest butt I've ever seen on a man" during interviews.
Williams humorously noted, "I'm sure he just wants to stop talking about his beautiful cheeks," but the Verizon short film is unlikely to end the conversation. Instead, it adds another impressive credit to Storrie’s growing resume.
Following his success on Heated Rivalry, Storrie hosted an episode of Saturday Night Live and is currently filming the movie Peaked for A24. He also has an upcoming episode of Criminal Minds slated for release.
Storrie is represented by CAA, Atlas Artists, the law firm Yorn Levine, and Shelter PR for personal publicity.
