The group will release their highly anticipated fourth studio album, Sungazer, on July 10. Following the release, they will showcase tracks from the album while supporting the British prog-rock trio Muse on a North American tour throughout July and August.

Sungazer marks the band’s first new album in a decade, distributed via Mushroom Music and Virgin Music Group. The lead singles, "Lucky Dimes," which was released in 2025, and "Giving Up Air," already performed live on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in January, provide a glimpse into the fresh sound the band has cultivated.

In a statement, The Temper Trap reflected on their time apart and the personal growth they have experienced individually. They described Sungazer as containing "the most pure collection of music we've ever made." The group emphasized the enjoyment they found in the creative process this time around, explaining, "We had more fun making this record and in the writing room than on any of the previous records we've done. We're in a great place creatively and in our friendships, we're closer than ever. Being back into the studio together really felt like coming home."

The band’s core members—Dougy Mandagi (lead singer), Toby Dundas (drummer), Jonathon Aherne (bass), and Joseph Greer (guitar)—immediately sensed an inspiring energy upon regrouping in the studio. Their process involved working between continents, exchanging demos remotely, and convening in Melbourne for dedicated studio sessions. Their representatives note that the album delivers an "impassioned and immediate sound" that reflects this dynamic workflow.

The Temper Trap first rose to prominence in the late 2000s with their breakthrough single "Sweet Disposition," notable for Mandagi’s distinctive falsetto and its inclusion in the film (500) Days of Summer. Domestically, the band has earned multiple ARIA Awards and topped charts with their previous albums, including 2012’s self-titled release and 2016’s Thick as Thieves. The band has also endured lineup changes, with longtime guitarist Lorenzo Sillitto departing in 2013. They have performed in stadiums and major events, including headlining the halftime show at the 2012 AFL Grand Final.

In late 2025, the band embarked on a series of headlining shows in Australia, followed by select North American dates in cities such as New York, Los Angeles, and Toronto. Their upcoming 2026 schedule expands on this with a major North American tour as the opening act for Muse’s The Wow Signal Tour. The tour will kick off at Summerfest 2026 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on July 4, before moving across numerous cities through late August.
