Emerging from Melbourne's vibrant music scene in 2005, The Temper Trap established themselves as one of Australia's most successful indie rock exports of the late 2000s, achieving global recognition with their atmospheric sound and anthemic singles. The band was founded by vocalist and guitarist Dougy Mandagi, bassist Jonathon Aherne, and drummer Toby Dundas, with guitarist Lorenzo Sillitto joining the lineup shortly after its formation. They honed their craft locally before making a pivotal move to London in 2008, seeking to broaden their international reach.
Their debut album, "Conditions," released in June 2009, became their breakthrough work. It was met with critical acclaim and commercial success, peaking at number nine on the ARIA Albums Chart and entering the top 30 in the United Kingdom. The album's lead single, "Sweet Disposition," became a worldwide phenomenon, reaching the top 10 in Belgium, Ireland, and the UK, and achieving platinum status in multiple countries. The band's self-titled second album arrived in mid-2012, showcasing a more expansive and polished rock sound. During the recording process for their third album, the group underwent a significant lineup change when founding guitarist Lorenzo Sillitto departed in October 2013.
