Scary Movie 6 arrives early! The Wayans family returns June 5, 2026, for the first time since 2001. Get ready for a summer laugh fest.

AceShowbiz - The sixth installment of the beloved Scary Movie franchise is arriving in theaters sooner than initially planned. Originally set to debut on June 12, 2026, the release date has now been moved up to June 5, according to an announcement by Marlon Wayans on Instagram. This marks the first time the Wayans family has been involved in the series since Scary Movie 2 in 2001, with the upcoming film following Scary Movie 5, which was released back in 2013.
In his announcement, Marlon Wayans shared an update on the film’s post-production status and the change in release date. He explained that the movie is currently in the editing phase but due to "overwhelming response and worldwide excitement," the premiere would be pushed up by a week. "We are starting off the summer with a bang and a laugh fest," Wayans said, expressing enthusiasm about the film’s early arrival.
The decision to move the release date appears strategic. Paramount Pictures seemingly adjusted the schedule to avoid clashing with Universal’s Steven Spielberg-directed film Disclosure Day, which is slated for June 12. However, the new date, June 5, places Scary Movie alongside several other high-profile releases, including Amazon MGM Studios’ Masters of the Universe, Warner Bros.’ Animal Friends featuring Ryan Reynolds, and Lionsgate’s Power Ballad starring Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas.
This scheduling update came just one day after the official trailer for Scary Movie was made available online. The trailer had its initial debut in theaters on February 27, playing ahead of the highly anticipated Scream 7, a franchise the film often parodies. The preview revealed that the movie will spoof a wide variety of horror and thriller titles beyond Scream, including M3GAN, Wednesday, Ma, Sinners, Everything Everywhere All At Once, Get Out, Smile, Weapons, Longlegs, The Substance, and Terrifier.
Scary Movie (2026) is directed by Michael Tiddes, with a screenplay penned by the Wayans family members Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Keenen Ivory Wayans, and Craig Wayans, alongside Rick Alvarez. The official synopsis teases a meta-horror comedy that revisits the iconic masked killer "Ghostface" 26 years after the original encounters.
The story reunites the Core Four—Marlon Wayans as "Shorty," Shawn Wayans as "Ray," Anna Faris as "Cindy," and Regina Hall as "Brenda"—who once again find themselves targeted by the killer. The film promises a satirical take on countless horror movie tropes, including reboots, remakes, sequels, spin-offs, and the modern trend of "final chapters" that never seem to end.
The synopsis declares that Scary Movie will leave no horror franchise or cliché untouched: "Nothing is sacred. No trope survives. Every line gets crossed. The Wayans are back to cancel the Cancel Culture."
Alongside the returning main cast, the movie will feature a mix of familiar and new faces. Returning actors include Cheri Oteri, Chris Elliott, Dave Sheridan, Lochlyn Munro, Jon Abrahams, and Anthony Anderson. Newcomers joining the film are Gregg Wayans, Kim Wayans, Benny Zielke, Cameron Scott Roberts, Heidi Gardner, Olivia Rose Keegan, Ruby Snowber, Savannah Lee Nassif, Sydney Park, and Felissa Rose.
With an ambitious scope of satire and the involvement of the original Wayans team, Scary Movie (2026) aims to reignite the franchise’s signature blend of horror parody and comedy. Fans can expect the series to kick off the summer movie season with a fast-paced, laughter-filled experience when it hits theaters on June 5, 2026.
