The latest installment in the enduring slasher saga will be penned by the talented writing duo, Lilla and Nora Zuckerman, widely recognized as the Zuckerman sisters, according to a report from The Hollywood Reporter.

The Zuckerman sisters bring a strong television background to the franchise, having served as showrunners for the first season of Peacock’s acclaimed mystery series Poker Face, which stars Natasha Lyonne. Their impressive credits also include writing and executive producing roles on notable TV shows such as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Suits, Fringe, and Prodigal Son. Their involvement marks a fresh creative direction for the Scream 8 screenplay.

This announcement comes on the heels of the success of Scream 7, which debuted on February 27 and became the highest-grossing entry in the franchise’s history, surpassing $200 million worldwide. It was also the first film in the series to be released in IMAX theaters. The seventh film marked a triumphant return for creator Kevin Williamson, who took on directing duties once again. It also featured the return of the franchise’s beloved final girl, Neve Campbell, who had been absent from Scream VI due to salary negotiations. Campbell’s character and her daughter Tatum, played by Isabel May, faced new threats from Ghostface in the film.

The screenplay for Scream 7 was co-written by Williamson and Guy Busick, known for his work on the Ready or Not films and Abigail. However, Williamson recently indicated that he will likely not direct the upcoming eighth installment, stating to Hello Sidney that he plans to "step back and just be a part of the family again" for the next film.

Following the release of Scream 7, cast member Anna Camp mentioned to The Hollywood Reporter that she had heard rumors about another sequel being in the works, though she had not received any direct confirmation from key figures like Williamson or Campbell.
