AceShowbiz - Dhurandhar: The Revenge continues to dominate the North American box office, setting a new record for Indian films. In its second weekend, the film earned $4.9 million across 987 screens, bringing its total gross to $22.9 million. Directed by Aditya Dhar, the movie stars Ranveer Singh as an undercover agent operating in Pakistan, a storyline that has resonated strongly with audiences.
Remarkably, Dhurandhar: The Revenge has maintained its top ranking for a second consecutive weekend, an uncommon achievement for Indian films in this market. It has also achieved a 95% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes based on over 1,000 ratings, demonstrating widespread viewer approval. This success allowed the film to surpass the previous record-holder, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, which had held the title since 2017 as the highest-grossing Indian movie in North America.
Meanwhile, the independent film scene faces challenges, although IFC Films' Forbidden Fruits managed to secure a spot in the top ten indie releases. The witch-themed comedy, which recently premiered at SXSW, earned $1.7 million in 1,525 theaters. Directed by Meredith Alloway in her feature debut, the film stars Lili Reinhart, Victoria Pedretti, Alexandra Shipp, and Lola Tung as a fashionable coven running a boutique mall store. The film’s audience was notably 73% female, contributing to its box office performance despite the competitive landscape for indie features and documentaries.
