AceShowbiz - Kaley Cuoco has been officially cast in HBO Max’s upcoming drama pilot How to Survive Without Me, marking a notable reunion with creators from her previous hit series The Flight Attendant.
Kaley Cuoco first gained widespread fame for her role as Penny in the long-running CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory. Since then, she has built a diverse career, including starring in the HBO Max thriller series The Flight Attendant, which earned her two Emmy and Golden Globe nominations. Although that show ended in 2022 with cancellation confirmed in January 2024, Cuoco’s collaboration with executive producer Greg Berlanti continues with this new project.
Variety reported on March 4, 2026, that Cuoco has joined the cast of How to Survive Without Me, an HBO Max drama pilot. The series is co-written by Greg Berlanti and Bash Doran, based on a story developed by Berlanti, Doran, and Robbie Rogers. Berlanti, who served as executive producer on The Flight Attendant, reunites with Cuoco for this new venture, which also stars Ray Romano and Joshua Jackson, who were previously confirmed to be part of the cast.
The pilot’s premise centers on the De Angelis family navigating life after the death of their matriarch, Beverly. The storyline explores how the family members drift apart while trying to manage complex personal challenges. Beverly, despite her passing, is said to continue influencing the family from beyond, maintaining control in her unique way.
Cuoco will portray Kate, the eldest daughter of the De Angelis family. Kate inherits her mother’s traits of perfectionism, elegance, and organizational skills. She struggles to balance her career and family responsibilities while confronting unresolved issues from her past, adding emotional depth to the drama.
This new role highlights Kaley Cuoco’s expanding range beyond the comedic parts that initially defined her career. While she may not yet exhibit the widest versatility compared to some peers, her gradual movement into drama and thriller genres, including her recent miniseries Vanished, indicates a deliberate shift toward more dramatic, character-driven stories.
Alongside The Flight Attendant, other notable projects in Cuoco’s filmography include voice work on Harley Quinn and a role in Based on a True Story. Fans of Cuoco who have appreciated her transition from comedy to drama will find much to anticipate in How to Survive Without Me.
As the pilot develops, it promises to be a significant opportunity for Kaley Cuoco to further demonstrate her dramatic talents in a family-centered story crafted by a team she has successfully collaborated with before. The series’ exploration of grief, family dynamics, and personal growth aligns well with Cuoco’s recent career trajectory and may mark one of her most compelling roles to date.
