The incident occurred on March 8, when Rihanna was inside an Airstream trailer on their property and suddenly heard loud, rapid gunfire. She described the sound to police as “10 bangs of metal,” quickly realizing bullets were striking the windshield just feet from where she had been standing moments before.

Reacting on pure instinct, Rihanna woke A$AP Rocky and urgently informed him that they were under attack. The couple immediately dropped to the ground for protection before rushing to the garage to ensure the safety of their three young children and staff members.

During her conversation with law enforcement, Rihanna mentioned having previously received death threats on social media but could not link any recent events to the shooting.

Authorities have charged 35-year-old Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, a Florida resident, with carrying out the attack. Prosecutors report that Ortiz arrived at the property armed with an AR-15 assault rifle, loaded ammunition, and disguised with a wig. She fired approximately 20 rounds at the home, prompting widespread concern about celebrity security.

The shooter faces 14 charges, including attempted murder, 10 counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, and three counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling. If found guilty, Ortiz could face life imprisonment.

At Ortiz’s court hearing on March 25, Judge Theresa McGonigle denied any reduction in bail, which remains at $1.875 million. The prosecution underscored the gravity of the crime, emphasizing that the attack “could easily have resulted in multiple homicides of children and adults.”

The judge highlighted the evidence indicating Ortiz’s premeditated intent, pointing out that she came prepared with a loaded weapon and disguise, reinforcing the necessity of the high bail to protect public safety.
