AceShowbiz - Charlie Puth has released his fourth studio album, Whatever's Clever!, which officially launched on March 27 via Atlantic Records.
Puth describes this new album as a more intimate and revealing project compared to his previous work. "I had to take a closer look at myself to make this record and sing about things I normally wouldn't sing about," he shared, emphasizing that audiences have previously known his music more than they’ve truly known him. This album, he says, gives fans the opportunity to connect with his authentic self.
One of Puth’s primary goals with Whatever's Clever! was to create a sound that is "rich, warm, and big." To help bring this vision to life, he collaborated with BloodPop, who co-produced the album. BloodPop pushed Puth to explore new sonic territories and tackle subjects that had once felt uncomfortable to express in his music.
The album includes notable collaborations that add unique flavors to the project. Michael McDonald and Kenny Loggins lend their talents to the yacht rock-inspired track "Love In Exile." Actor Jeff Goldblum contributes spoken word elements to the song "Until It Happens To You." Additionally, Kenny G features on "Cry," Ravyn Lenae appears on "New Jersey," and Hikaru Utada is featured on "Home."
On March 26, just one day before the album’s release, Puth appeared on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! where he performed the song "Sideways" alongside Coco Jones, highlighting the fresh material from his new record.
Following the album launch, Puth is set to embark on the WHATEVER'S CLEVER! World Tour, beginning April 22 at San Diego’s Viejas Arena. The tour will continue with a series of concerts across Europe in June and July, giving fans worldwide a chance to experience the new music live.
With a career total of over 35 billion streams, nine multi-platinum singles, and multiple award nominations—including four Grammy nods, three Billboard Music Awards, and a Golden Globe nomination—Puth remains a force in the pop music scene. He also enjoyed a notable 12-week run at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with his collaboration on Wiz Khalifa’s 2015 hit "See You Again," and he has three top 10 albums on the Billboard 200, including his 2022 release Charlie, which peaked at No. 10.
In a recent conversation with Tomás Mier at the Blue Note Jazz Club in Los Angeles, Puth described the new album as "inherently jazzy" and "incredibly honest." Despite the album’s title, he insisted that none of the 12 songs are “clever” but rather deeply real and personal reflections.
Whatever's Clever! is now available to stream, offering fans a fresh, authentic glimpse into the evolving artistry of Charlie Puth.
