Tank's "Control" hits No. 1, tying Charlie Wilson's record with his 11th Adult R&B Airplay chart-topper. A new milestone for the R&B icon.
- March 25, 2026
AceShowbiz - Tank secures another milestone with his latest single, Control, which climbs to No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart dated March 28, 2026. This achievement marks his 11th chart-topping hit, tying him with Charlie Wilson for the most No. 1s among male artists in the chart’s 32-year history.
The song Control features an interpolation of Janet Jackson’s iconic 1986 track of the same name and ascended from the No. 2 spot to dominate the week of March 13-19, 2026. According to Luminate data, it was the most-played song across adult R&B radio stations in the United States during this tracking period, increasing its audience plays by 1% compared to the previous week.
This rise dethroned Jill Scott’s Pressha, which slipped from No. 1 to No. 5 with a 20% decline in airplay after just two weeks leading the chart. With Control’s ascent, Tank solidifies his place as one of the most successful male artists on Adult R&B Airplay, sharing the top spot with Wilson and ranking alongside Toni Braxton, who also holds 11 No. 1 hits. Only Alicia Keys surpasses them with 14 chart-toppers.
Here is a recap of Tank’s 11 No. 1 Adult R&B Airplay hits:
- Please Don’t Go, No. 1 for 10 weeks starting May 19, 2007
- Next Breath, one week at No. 1 on June 16, 2012
- When We, 11 weeks beginning Nov. 18, 2017
- Dirty, three weeks from April 20, 2019
- Can’t Let It Show, two weeks starting July 3, 2021
- I Deserve, one week on March 19, 2022

- Gone, Aaliyah featuring Tank, two weeks from Sept. 27, 2025
- Control, currently one week at No. 1 as of March 28, 2026
On the broader R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart, which combines adult R&B and mainstream R&B/hip-hop radio data, Control fell from No. 12 to No. 17 during the same tracking week, with audience impressions dropping 9% to 5.4 million. Despite this slide, the No. 12 peak remains Tank’s strongest performance on that chart since May 2023, when See Through Love also reached No. 12.
Tank’s continued success on the Adult R&B Airplay chart underscores his lasting impact and consistent appeal within the genre, making him one of the definitive voices of contemporary R&B radio.
