Last week, Hannah Einbinder, who plays comedy writer Ava Daniels, confirmed to Collider that the series would conclude this spring. Now, with the premiere date announced and the trailer released, excitement is building for the final chapter of this odd-couple showbiz comedy.

The new trailer reveals Deborah’s struggle to revive her career despite a binding non-compete agreement resulting from her tumultuous late-night television tenure. With her sharp wit and resilience, she teams up once again with Ava, whose writing talents are crucial to Deborah’s plans for a comeback. The stakes are high, as Deborah must navigate legal complications while trying to secure her legacy in comedy. Meanwhile, fans are also left wondering if Deborah’s managers, Jimmy (played by Paul W. Downs) and Kayla (portrayed by Megan Stalter), have finally taken their relationship to the next level.

The fifth season of Hacks will consist of ten episodes, with new installments debuting weekly. Notably, double episodes are scheduled for April 30 and May 7, culminating in the season finale on May 28.

Reflecting on the previous season, Deborah finally achieved her dream of hosting a late-night talk show, although it came with complications. Ava’s insistence on joining the writing staff, despite blackmailing her way onto the team, created tension and challenges at the show’s onset. Nevertheless, the program gained popularity, boosted by recurring guest appearances from viral star Dance Mom, played by Julianne Nicholson. The relationship between Deborah and Ava evolved from conflict to reconciliation, highlighting the complex dynamic that drives the series.

A prematurely published obituary, which blamed Deborah for the demise of late-night talk shows, spurred her decision to reunite with Ava and attempt to reboot their careers together.

The upcoming season will also see the return of several recurring characters integral to Deborah’s world. Carl Clemons-Hopkins returns as her business advisor, Rose Abdoo reprises her role as Deborah’s estate manager, and Mark Indelicato returns as her personal assistant. Additional familiar faces include Kaitlin Olson as Deborah’s rebellious daughter AJ, Jane Adams as Ava’s mother, and Lauren Weedman as the lively Las Vegas mayor.
