AceShowbiz - Rapper Afroman has secured a legal victory after a jury ruled in his favor in a civil case involving several sheriff’s deputies from Ohio.
The dispute originated from a 2022 law enforcement raid at Afroman's residence in Adams County, which was conducted under a search warrant related to allegations of drug possession and kidnapping. Despite the raid, no charges were filed against the artist, but the incident later escalated into a lawsuit.
Seven deputies filed suit against Afroman, alleging that he harmed their reputations by including footage of them—captured by his home security cameras—in his music videos. Among these was the video for "Lemon Pound Cake," which attracted significant online attention.
After reviewing the evidence, the jury concluded that Afroman did not defame the deputies, dismissing the claims despite reports that several officers became emotional during the trial.
Following the verdict, Afroman expressed his thoughts on the result, stating, "I didn't win, America won. America still has freedom of speech for the people, by the people."
Throughout the legal process, Afroman maintained that the footage belonged to him and that he had the legal right to use it creatively. He also asserted that the initial raid was unjustified, labeling it as a mistake during court proceedings.
In light of the favorable ruling, Afroman indicated his intention to remain in the community where the incident and subsequent lawsuit occurred.
