AceShowbiz - Shia LaBeouf has encountered another legal issue in New Orleans linked to a February incident.
The actor was arrested over the weekend on an additional misdemeanor count of simple battery related to a February 17 altercation outside a bar in the city's French Quarter. This new charge arises from the same event that previously resulted in his arrest during Mardi Gras festivities.
Authorities reported that officers responded shortly after midnight following complaints about a disturbance. Police stated that Shia LaBeouf had been removed from the bar before a fight allegedly erupted on the street. Two men later informed officers that they had been struck during the confrontation.
In response, Shia LaBeouf's attorney, Sarah Chervinsky, issued a statement explaining that when a new warrant was issued, the actor “voluntarily turned himself in” to the Orleans Parish jail.
She further emphasized, “No regular person would be required to post over $100,000 in bonds and be jailed two separate times for one misdemeanor incident.” She added that while Shia LaBeouf should not receive special treatment, he also should not be treated more harshly by law enforcement or the courts simply because he is a public figure.
Following his arrest, Shia LaBeouf posted a $5,000 bond and was released from custody.
Additionally, a judge has mandated that Shia LaBeouf enroll in substance abuse treatment and undergo drug testing as the legal process continues.
