AceShowbiz - Sarah J. Maas has regained control over the rights to her works, opening the door for new adaptations of her popular series A Court of Thorns and Roses. During an interview on Call Her Daddy with Alex Cooper, Maas revealed that she now owns the masters to all her projects, a milestone she describes as a significant part of her recent journey.
This regained control means that despite previous adaptations or statements from streaming platforms like Hulu, Maas is free to pursue adaptations on her own terms. She expressed enthusiasm about being actively involved in any TV or movie versions, wanting to ensure that both her vision and the fans’ expectations are honored.
Maas isn’t the only bestselling author to take this approach. Colleen Hoover, another BookTok sensation, experienced creative challenges during the making of the adaptation of her novel It Ends With Us, which she described as traumatic. Since then, Hoover has become more hands-on with adaptations, even founding her own production company to maintain creative control.
Currently, Maas is dedicated to completing four interconnected story arcs in the ACOTAR universe. The sixth book is scheduled for release in October, with the seventh expected shortly after in January 2027. Once these are complete, she plans to shift her focus towards television adaptations of the series.
“I love TV, I want to be a part of that,” Maas said, emphasizing her desire for faithful adaptations that reflect both her imagination and the fans’ hopes. With the rights back in her hands, fans of ACOTAR can anticipate a future TV series guided by the original creator herself.
