Kathryn Hahn has officially been announced as the actress to portray the iconic villain Mother Gothel in the upcoming remake. Hahn subtly revealed her involvement through an Instagram bio caption reading "mother knows best," which was later confirmed by Walt Disney Studios in a promotional video featuring Hahn wearing a Mother Gothel-themed shirt.

The original Tangled film, released in 2010, was a significant success for Disney, grossing over $592 million worldwide. It marked a turning point for Disney animation, bringing the classic Brothers Grimm story of Rapunzel to a wide audience through a vibrant and modern animated musical. The story has since inspired numerous adaptations including books, series, and stage musicals, and now Disney aims to capture that magic once again with a live-action version.

Alongside Hahn’s casting, the roles of Rapunzel and Flynn Rider (also known as Eugene) have been filled. Disney first announced plans for the live-action version of Tangled in December 2024, with Michael Gracey, director of The Greatest Showman, attached to helm the project.

Production for the live-action Tangled is expected to begin later this year, although Disney has yet to officially announce a release date.
