AceShowbiz - Netflix is expanding the Will Ferrell Sports Comedy Universe with a new series titled The Hawk, scheduled to premiere this summer. Previously announced under the name GOLF, this golf-themed comedy stars Will Ferrell as Lonnie "The Hawk" Hawkins, who was the top golfer in 2004 and is now navigating the challenging later stages of his career.
The Hawk centers on Lonnie’s attempt to reclaim his former glory despite his aging body urging retirement. His signature style includes bleached curly hair, a dyed goatee, and vibrantly colored golf shirts, reflecting his flamboyant personality. The storyline follows Lonnie as he battles to win one final major championship that would complete golf’s Grand Slam, even though those around him—his ex-wife Stacy and son Lance—believe his career is over.
Molly Shannon plays Stacy, Lonnie’s ex-wife, while Jimmy Tatro portrays Lance, the new rising star in golf and Lonnie’s son. The show features a supporting cast including Fortune Feimster as a caddie, Luke Wilson as a rival golfer, Chris Parnell as a PGA Tour official, Katelyn Tarver as Lance’s influencer fiancée, and David Hornsby as a wealthy suitor of Stacy.
The first season will consist of 10 episodes. Will Ferrell executive produces the series through his Gloria Sanchez Productions alongside Jessica Elbaum and Alix Taylor. Additional executive producers include Rian Johnson, Ram Bergman, Nena Rodrigue from T-Street, as well as Ferrell’s frequent collaborators Chris Henchy and Harper Steele, plus David Gordon Green and Andrew Guest.
Netflix has also released a teaser preview featuring Ferrell in his early 2000s golf attire, giving audiences a glimpse of the character’s unique look and the tone of the show. Fans of sports comedies like Talladega Nights, Semi-Pro, and Blades of Glory can expect a similar comedic style in The Hawk.
