AceShowbiz - Shay Mitchell is set to bring her talent to Fox's upcoming lifeguard drama, Baywatch, as a series regular, TVLine confirms. The former "Pretty Little Liars" star will portray Trina, a former lawyer who left a prestigious legal career to pursue her passion for lifeguarding full-time.
The character of Trina is described as "the sharpest mind on Baywatch," combining intelligence with dedication. She is passionate about her work but often finds herself second-guessing decisions despite her keen intellect.
Shay Mitchell gained widespread recognition for her role as Emily Fields on ABC Family/Freeform's Pretty Little Liars from 2010 to 2017. Since then, she has expanded her television repertoire with notable appearances on Lifetime’s YOU and Hulu’s Dollface, among other projects.
Contrary to initial reports labeling it a reboot, Fox's Baywatch is actually a continuation of the original series that aired for 11 seasons between 1989 and 2001. The revival is scheduled to premiere during the 2026-2027 television season, with McG directing the series premiere.
Leading the new cast is Stephen Amell, known for his roles in Arrow and Heels, who will play Hobie Buchannon. Hobie is the son of Mitch Buchannon, originally portrayed by David Hasselhoff in the classic series. Hobie’s character was previously played by Brandon Call and Jeremy Jackson in the original run.
Jessica Belkin joins as Charlie Vale, Hobie’s daughter, while Brooks Nader appears as Selene, a sharp-tongued captain who frequently clashes with Hobie. Noah Beck will take on the role of Luke, a rookie lifeguard from a firefighting family, and newcomer Thaddeus LaGrone plays Brad, a Marine returning home to care for his ailing father. Hassie Harrison rounds out the main cast as Nat, an Olympic athlete turned lifeguard.
Adding a nostalgic touch, David Chokachi will reprise his original role as Cody Madison in a recurring capacity.
