AceShowbiz - Never to Be Found is set for a television adaptation by Amazon MGM Studios, based on the psychological thriller novel by Irish author Jo Spain. The upcoming series will be written and executive produced by Angela Kang, known for her role as showrunner on AMC’s The Walking Dead. This marks another high-profile project for Kang under her multi-year overall deal with Amazon MGM Studios.
Jo Spain, who has penned 13 bestselling crime novels and multiple psychological thrillers including The Confession (2018), is also an established screenwriter. Her television credits include Taken Down (2018), Sanditon (2023), Harry Wild (2022–2024), The Boy That Never Was (2024), and Mix Tape (2025). Her new book, Never to Be Found, is scheduled for release in the UK on July 2, 2026.
The novel’s narrative alternates between present-day Brighton and York and flashbacks to Japan and London. It centers on protagonist Veronica Page, who becomes entangled with a suspected murderer while confronting her own traumatic past. The story explores themes of disappearance, identity, obsession, and the lingering effects of trauma, which the TV adaptation aims to bring to life.
Angela Kang took over as showrunner of The Walking Dead for its ninth through eleventh seasons, succeeding predecessors such as Frank Darabont, Glen Mazzara, and Scott M. Gimple. She currently serves as an executive producer on the AMC spinoff The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, which has been renewed for a fourth and final season.
Alongside Never to Be Found, Kang is also developing an adaptation of R.F. Kuang’s fantasy novel Katabasis for Amazon MGM Studios. Previously, she was attached to Amazon’s live-action project Silk: Spider Society, which has since been shelved.
At present, the adaptation of Jo Spain’s Never to Be Found remains in the development phase at Amazon MGM Studios, with expectations high given the creative team’s experience and the novel’s compelling subject matter.
