AceShowbiz - Benson Boone's debut at Coachella was meant to be a night to remember, featuring a surprise appearance by the legendary Queen guitarist Brian May. However, the reaction from the festival crowd was not quite what Boone had hoped for.
The singer took to TikTok to share his feelings over the lackluster crowd reaction. He reenacted his performance by pretending to sing "Bohemian Rhapsody" into a banana and then put his hand up to his ear as if awaiting for applause from his audience.
Making it clear that he's disappointed by the crowd's reception, he captioned the video, "Me trying to get the crowd at Coachella to understand what an absolute legend Brian May is and the cultural impact he has on music and THE WORLD."
On Friday, April 11, the 22-year-old rising pop star, took to the stage at the Indio music festival in a Freddie Mercury-esque cape as he kicked off his set with Queen's iconic "Bohemian Rhapsody" on piano. In a twist that should have sent fans into a frenzy, Brian May joined Boone on stage and received a somewhat lukewarm reception.
Despite the crowd's underwhelming reaction, Boone and May delivered an electrifying performance, transitioning into Boone's hit "Beautiful Things" with May adding Queen-style guitar riffs and fireworks.
Brian May, who had recovered from a minor stroke just seven months prior, expressed his joy and pride over the collaboration. In an Instagram post featuring behind-the-scenes photos with Boone, May wrote, "Do we look happy?!!! Gonna treasure this moment on the plane with @bensonboone - a truly golden 22-year-old prodigy."
He added, "Thanks to all of you folks who made it feel so special - you know who you are !!!! And this particular way of concluding 'Bohemian Rhapsody' will be hard to beat in the years to come !!! Thanks. And for Benson and his entire team, I have no words. I'm awestruck."
In the comments of Boone's TikTok video, fans rallied to his defense, with one user stating, "It was an AMAZING performance and Brian May was THE surprise guest of the century."
Boone's ability to turn a potentially disheartening experience into a humorous and reflective moment speaks to his character and growing fame in the music world.
