AceShowbiz - The wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner has been arrested and booked for attempted murder. The arrest happened following a confrontation with police where she held a handgun and got shot by an officer during a search for hit-and-run suspects in Los Angeles.
The ordeal unfolded on Tuesday afternoon, April 8 in the Eagle Rock neighborhood of Los Angeles. According to the LAPD, the chaos began after the California Highway Patrol requested backup to locate three misdemeanor hit-and-run suspects who had fled into a residential area after causing a multi-car crash on the freeway.
While officers were setting up a perimeter and searching the area for the suspects, they observed Jillian Shriner, wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, outside her home reportedly armed with a 9-millimeter handgun.
Despite multiple orders from the officers to drop the weapon, Jillian allegedly pointed the gun at them. According to the LAPD press release, officers then opened fire, striking her at least once. It was later reported that she was hit in the shoulder.
Jillian, who is also a New York Times bestselling author, retreated into her home after being shot but surrendered herself to the police with the family's babysitter shortly after.
She was taken to a local hospital, where she received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries before being booked for attempted murder. A firearm was recovered from her residence.
Jillian is known for her memoirs "Some Girls: My Life in a Harem" and "Behold the Monster: Confronting America's Most Prolific Serial Killer." Recently, she had shared on social media her battle with cancer, adding another layer to her public narrative.
Meanwhile, the hit-and-run suspects remain mostly at large, with only one apprehended. The other two suspects evaded capture despite eyewitnesses and community members, including some who pursued one of the suspects on foot.
Jillian Shriner's husband, Scott Shriner, has been with Weezer since 2001. The band was gearing up to perform at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival as a surprise addition, though it remains unclear how this incident might affect their scheduled appearance.
No officers or community members were reported injured in the incident. Both Weezer and Jillian's representatives have yet to provide further comments regarding the dramatic event.
