AceShowbiz - Nicki Minaj, the renowned rapper known for hits like "Super Bass" and "Anaconda," has been the unfortunate victim of a series of "swatting" incidents. According to various reports, including an extensive piece from the Los Angeles Times, police were called to Nicki's Hidden Hills residence multiple times based on fake reports of violent crime and child abuse.
On April 9, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department received a spurious report of an assault with a deadly weapon at Minaj's home. The anonymous caller claimed that shots had been fired by a friend, targeting a Black female adult. The call, which came via a business line, was later deemed a 'swatting' - a prank that falsely reports serious crimes to elicit a major police response.
Earlier in the year, police had also shown up at Minaj's mansion following an anonymous call alleging child abuse of her toddler son, whom she shares with her husband Kenneth Petty. Just hours after this incident, another call came through, falsely claiming there was a fire at her residence.
Nicki confronted these swatting attacks head-on. She took to Twitter to expose the individual responsible for the previous year's hoax calls. "To the woman who made those swatting calls to my home… #WasItWorthItDumbo," she tweeted, revealing the prankster's name, Stephanie Bell.
Minaj expressed her gratitude towards authorities for their diligent detective work, stating, "A warrant is in the system. Great detective work. So grateful. The DA filed one count for the swatting call and one for the false report to DCFS. To God be the glory."
Minaj is not letting these incidents slide. TMZ confirmed that she has hired lawyers to ensure those responsible are held legally accountable. Law enforcement sources reiterated that swatting wastes valuable time and resources, and they are keen on preventing such fraudulent activities.
The latest swatting targeting Nicki Minaj came after the tragic death of rapper Young Scooter. In a similar incident, someone called 911 to report a fabricated criminal activity. When cops arrived on the scene, Young Scooter tried to flee but ended up seriously injured after jumping over a fence and died.
The person making the call has been arrested. She's identified as Demetria Spencer a.k.a Demi Blanco from Zeus Network's reality show "Baddies".
