AceShowbiz - The evolution of M3GAN! From horror to sci-fi/action, "M3GAN 2.0" unleashes a bonker trailer just after a bunch of her likeliness took the stage at CinemaCon in Las Vegas to dance to Britney Spears' iconic single "Oops!…I Did It Again".
Played again by Amie Donald and voiced by Jenna Davis, M3GAN kicks off the video by reflecting on her past actions and confessing, "I'll admit: There were some bugs in my programming."
This remarks set the tone for a wild ride, which sees M3GAN being re-awoken after her previous attempt to kill her creator, Gemma (Allison Williams), and raise Gemma's young niece, Cady (Violet McGraw), on her own.
Gemma is forced to bring M3GAN back for a crucial mission. Initially resurrected as a "plastic Teletubby", M3GAN must prove her trustworthiness before being upgraded to a taller, humanoid design.
The pressing reason for this upgrade is the emergence of Amelia, a rogue robot created with Gemma's original M3GAN technology. Amelia, now a deadly predator, has begun hunting down everyone involved in her creation, setting the stage for a fierce battle. As the "M3GAN 2.0" trailer cheekily puts it, it's "this b***h vs. that b***h."
The trailer, set almost entirely to Britney's classic, showcases multiple action sequences that could lead this franchise down the Terminator route with its sci-fi and action elements.
Directed once again by Gerard Johnstone and based on a screenplay co-written with Akela Cooper, "M3GAN 2.0" promises to be bigger and more extravagant. If the first "M3GAN" was akin to horror comedies like "Child's Play," its sequel seems more reminiscent of a "Power Rangers" film crossed with "Alita: Battle Angel."
The film continues to follow M3GAN's mission to protect Cady at all costs, even making deals with the enemy. The trailer ends with M3GAN offering, "You can kill Gemma, but don't touch Cady," hinting at a narrative rife with complex motivations and intense confrontations.
With its prime summer release date on June 27, "M3GAN 2.0" is set to captivate audiences and potentially pave the way for future sequels where an army of M3GANs rise?
