AceShowbiz - Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's recent flight from Hawaii to Houston, Texas took an unexpected turn when his private jet faced a severe mechanical failure, forcing an emergency landing.
The former WWE champion-turned-Hollywood actor had embarked on this journey to attend the opening of the United Football League's (UFL) second season, a league he co-owns. However, just "35 to 40 minutes" into the flight, a hydraulic overheating issue grounded his $65 million Gulfstream G650.
Johnson took to social media to recount his ordeal, explaining he was meant to hype up the crowd at the UFL season opener, but the critical mechanical issue thwarted those plans.
While he's disappointed, he's grateful after safely landing back in Hawaii. "I'm here back home in Hawaii, and I was scheduled right now to be in Houston, Texas," he said in a video post on X.
The Rock commended his pilot's professional handling of the situation. "The pilot comes back to me, he gets down on one knee, and he is face-to-face with me. It's just me on the plane. Just me and the crew."
"And he says, 'Mr. Johnson, I'm sorry to inform you but we cannot continue to fly over the ocean. We have a problem. We have to turn the plane around, and we have to land back in Hawaii. You have my word I will land you back safely on the island,' " Johnson detailed.
The actor admitted he began contemplating the worst-case scenario. "Is this it? Is this how I check out?" he recalled. A considerate flight attendant offered to help calm his nerves. "Mr. Johnson can I get you anything?" she asked, to which he requested a drink - a double to be precise.
Reflecting on the experience, Johnson spoke candidly about the eye-opening nature of the scare. "When you are back there alone with just your drink, and you are thinking about this, and you've got everything crossed hoping you make it back safely, you start to realize what's really important in life," he shared.
Expressing his gratitude for a safe return, he concluded, "Bottom line is: I'm grateful to be back on the ground. I'm grateful to be back home in Hawaii. Super-bummed I can't be there in Texas."
Despite missing the UFL season opener, Johnson's message to fans and colleagues was heartfelt. "So sorry to our @TheUFL fans, players, coaches, staff and our teams at @FOXSports @espn I'm not there. Let's have a great season 2 opening weekend, have fun, and ball out."
In true Rock fashion, he signed off with a reflective note of appreciation towards his life and the universe. "I appreciate God, the universe … I took this as a sign from God and the universe. I wish though I was there in Houston, Texas," he concluded.
