'Euphoria' actress Sydney Sweeney is reportedly finalizing negotiations to board the much-awaited live-action adaptation of the iconic anime franchise 'Gundam'.

AceShowbiz - Sydney Sweeney is in final negotiations for the live-action "Gundam" movie being developed at Legendary. This announcement follows the initial reveal in 2021 about the project, then led by "Kong: Skull Island" filmmaker Jordan Vogt-Roberts.
Details about her role and the film's plot are currently being kept under wraps, with representatives for Legendary declining any comment at this time.
The "Gundam" series, created by Yoshiyuki Tomino in 1979, pioneered the "mecha" subgenre of science fiction, characterized by giant fighting robots. Since its debut as the anime series "Mobile Suit Gundam," it has grown into a lucrative multimedia franchise generating over $600 million annually through animated feature films, novels, manga, toys, models, and video games.
The story is set in a distant future, known as the Universal Century, where space colonies seek independence from Earth, leading to battles waged predominantly by giant robots, or Mobile Suits.
Jim Mickle, known for his work on "Sweet Tooth," now is set to write, direct, and produce the live-action adaptation. Mickle, along with Linda Moran, will produce the movie through their company, Nightshade. This adaptation will mark the first time "Gundam" is being brought to life in a live-action format.
Sweeney's involvement adds notable star power to the film. She has a roster of impressive projects on the horizon, including "Madame Web," "Immaculate," and Ron Howard's thriller "Eden."
Upcoming releases also feature her in the AppleTV+ film "Echo Valley" premiering June 13, an untitled biopic on boxer Christy Martin, and the third season of HBO's "Euphoria" alongside Zendaya Coleman and Jacob Elordi.
The "Gundam" film continues to be a closely guarded secret with fans eagerly awaiting more information. With Sweeney potentially leading the charge, the film is poised to bring a fresh and dynamic energy to this historical saga.
