AceShowbiz - HBO continues to build anticipation for its upcoming series adaptation of the immensely popular "Harry Potter" books, and the latest potential cast member has fans buzzing. British actor-comedian Nick Frost is nearing a deal to bring the character of Rubeus Hagrid to life, according to an exclusive report from Deadline.
If the deal is finalized, Frost would join an impressive lineup of actors already confirmed or in negotiations for the series. John Lithgow, Janet McTeer, and Paapa Essiedu are set to play Professor Albus Dumbledore, Professor Minerva McGonagall, and Professor Severus Snape, respectively.
HBO, however, has remained largely silent, stating, "We appreciate that such a high-profile series will draw a lot of rumor and speculation. As we make our way through pre-production, we will only confirm details as we finalize deals."
The buzz around Frost's potential casting began to build last week on online platforms like Reddit.
Fans pointed to a cryptic March 20 Instagram post by Frost, stating, "It's happening, it's actually happening," as a significant clue. Additionally, eagle-eyed followers noted that Frost started following "Harry Potter" series cast members Lithgow and Essiedu on social media.
Hagrid, originally portrayed by the late Robbie Coltrane in all eight "Harry Potter" films, is a warm and endearing character who serves as Hogwarts' gamekeeper and later as the Care of Magical Creatures professor.
Given Coltrane's memorable portrayal, Frost will have big shoes to fill. However, with recent betting odds placing him as the 2/1 favorite, there is a 33% chance he might land the role, outpacing contenders like Rory McCann and Nick Offerman.
The "Harry Potter" series adaptation comes from writer-showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director/executive producer Mark Mylod. HBO's Chairman and CEO, Casey Bloys, previously described the show as a "faithful adaptation" of J.K. Rowling's novels, promising to "dive deep into each of the iconic books."
Frost is well known for his frequent collaborations with Simon Pegg in films such as "Shaun of the Dead", "Hot Fuzz", "Paul", and "The World's End". He also starred in the Prime Video supernatural comedy series "Truth Seekers" and the AMC action drama "Into the Badlands". He will next appear in the upcoming "How to Train Your Dragon" live-action remake set for release in June.
As fans eagerly await official confirmations and further details, the casting speculation continues to generate excitement. With strong interest in the new cast, the "Harry Potter" series appears poised to draw a new generation of viewers.
