AceShowbiz - Speaking for the first time about his split from Jennifer Lopez, Ben Affleck has set the record straight on their recent divorce, illuminating the everyday challenges of their relationship.
Appearing on the cover of GQ's April 2025 issue, the 52-year-old actor candidly discussed the dissolution of their two-year marriage, putting to rest any notions of drama or scandal.
Affleck emphasized that there was no singular event that led to their breakup, saying, "The truth is, when you talk to somebody, 'Hey, what happened?' Well, there is no, 'This is what happened.' It's just a story about people trying to figure out their lives and relationships in ways that we all sort of normally do."
He further explained that as he gets older, he realizes the narrative people might expect isn't always the reality.
While the public may be keen to uncover some dramatic reason behind their split, Affleck insists that their breakup was rather ordinary. He mentioned, "There's no scandal, no soap opera, no intrigue. And the reason I don't want to share that is just sort of embarrassing. It feels vulnerable."
The narrative of their relationship, often highlighted by their differing approaches to fame, was a notable aspect. Affleck acknowledged Lopez's adeptness at handling celebrity, contrasting with his more reserved and private temperament.
On his involvement in the 2024 documentary about their marriage, "The Greatest Love Story Never Told", Affleck said, "Part of it was, 'Okay, if I'm going to participate in this, I want to try to do it in an honest way and in a way that's interesting.' "
The actor insisted the documentary wasn't the cause of their split, "It's not like you can watch that documentary and go, 'Oh, now I understand the issues that these two had.' "
Affleck expressed immense respect for Lopez, emphasizing that their split wasn't due to a lack of respect or animosity. "This is somebody I have a lot of respect for," he declared.
"And I get wanting to divine or explore the kind of differences in perspective that we have in terms of how a person feels comfortable approaching the line between public and private life. But I really hope that whatever you use doesn't suggest that I have any negativity or judgment or anything regarding that. I have nothing but respect."
